COLUMBUS, OHIO – Last week, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Locals 75, 880, and 1059 and Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) Local 390, representing tens of thousands of workers across the Buckeye State, announced their endorsement of former Sen. Sherrod Brown for U.S. Senate.
Kevin Garvey, president of UFCW Local 75, released the following statement:
“Sherrod has been a champion for working people his entire career. He knows that we need leaders who will fight for higher wages, lower prices, and a stronger Ohio. Sherrod already has a proven record for helping create union jobs, fighting for secure retirements for thousands of Ohioans, and standing up for workers’ rights. UFCW Local 75 is proud to endorse him.”
Miles Anderson, president of UFCW Local 880, released the following statement:
“Sherrod knows that UFCW members are essential to Ohio’s economy, and when they do well, it means Ohio does well. He’s led the charge to invest in our state, and it’s translated into new, good-paying union jobs for hardworking families. Sherrod has always put working people before Wall Street.”
Mike Nichols, president of UFCW Local 1059, released the following statement:
“We’re excited to endorse Sherrod. Unions mean better pay, stronger benefits, and safer working conditions, and he knows the value of unions in Ohio. He’s been out on picket lines across Ohio, demanding answers from Wall Street and corporations in Washington. We look forward to Sherrod building on his work of fighting for working families across our state.”
Tom Ruwan, president of RWDSU Local 390, released the following statement:
“Sherrod Brown has been a consistent champion for working people. He has fought to strengthen collective bargaining rights, expand overtime pay, and protect workers from unfair labor practices. Sherrod believes that every worker deserves dignity on the job and a fair shot – but most importantly, he’s always had our back, which is why we have his in this election.”
Background:
Sen. Brown has been a relentless advocate for UFCW members, unions, and all working people in Ohio:
- Brown has a lifetime 100 percent score from the AFL-CIO on his record of supporting working people and has walked picket lines in support of working Ohioans throughout his career.
- During his time in Congress, Brown led the effort to pass the Butch Lewis Act, which saved the pensions of 100,000 Ohioans from Wall Street greed. He also introduced the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, which would strengthen unions and give more Ohioans the opportunity to form a union.
- Brown’s legislative work, such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the CHIPS and Science Act, has created union jobs across Ohio with strong pay and benefits, as well as safe working conditions.
